What is RDM? |
When you see more and more our LED Stage lighting with RDM function, perhaps you have some questions. What is RDM??? Borrowing the explanation from Baidu Wenku~ I am too lazy to read Luo Luochang’s explanation from the beginning~ Let’s briefly talk about the RDM protocol in a simple and vernacular way... 1. What is RDM?? ANS: Basically, RDM is an expanded version of DMX512. It uses the same signal line as DMX512 and uses the RDM protocol to communicate between the console and the lamps. See clearly, it is "communication", that is, there is signal transmission in both directions, unlike DMX512 signal which is a one-way signal from the console to the lamp. 2. What can RDM do?? ANS: So in order to be able to communicate through the RDM protocol, both the console and the lamps need to support this protocol. So what is the communication?? Currently, the most popular function is to directly change the DMX address of the lamps from the console. , isn’t this very convenient!! When the lighting manufacturer puts the RDM protocol into the lighting fixture, they will decide how many functions to open for the console to make changes, which is the RDM part. Some lamps allow the console to edit built-in programs, etc. The data of the lamp can also be transmitted back to the console through RDM, so that the lighting control personnel can clearly control the current status of the lamp at any time (such as whether the bulb is on, whether the fan is running, etc.). Another advantage is that the lamps and consoles can be software upgraded through RDM. Through software upgrades, updates can be made when the original hardware conditions permit without spending a lot of money. 3. Which products are equipped with RDM protocol?? ANS: At present, most of the lamps and consoles equipped with RDM are products of big European and American brands, such as ETC, AVOLITES, MA, etc.~~The lamps are ROBE, MARTIN, etc., and has also incorporated the RDM protocol, allowing the product to be in line with international standards and more convenient to use, our products also has RDM protocol, such as LED Video Panel Effect Light YY-LP8399
4. Will there be interference between RDM and DMX512? ANS: No, RDM is originally a protocol expanded from DMX512. Both can exist at the same time without interference or other problems. 5. Is RDM practical in practice? ANS: Basically, from the moment you hang up the lamp, RDM can use the console to find "who" (which lamp) is "where" (address). If you find a lamp you don't recognize, you can ask the lamp through the console, and the lamp will respond to the channel setting value to the console. 6. Can my original console also control RDM lamps? ANS: As mentioned above, RDM is a protocol under the DMX architecture, so of course the original console you have can control lamps with RDM, but you can only control it as a general DMX lamp and cannot use the RDM function. RDM requires both the console and the lighting fixtures (including signal distributors, mixers, etc. in the middle of the line) to have this protocol before it can be used. PS.
